Safeguard Emergency Response Personnel
Medical Aid/Rescue Injured Officers, Citizens, Suspects Per Department Policy
Care For The Officer Involved Both Physically and Emotionally
Obtain Public Safety Statement As Needed

Public Safety Statement

Public safety information shall be limited to such things as; 1. Identity and/or location of injured parties 2. Outstanding suspect information 3. Number and direction of shots fired 4. Perimeter of the incident scene 5. Identity of known or potential witnesses.

Secure The Scene

LOCATE – ISOLATE – EVACUATE

Establish Sufficient Perimeter
Assess Resource Needs
Safeguard All Firearms (treat as evidence)
Limit Access to the Scene
Monitor Weather Conditions and its Impact on Scene
Crime Scene Log/Recorder
Preserve All Evidence
Relieve Officer Involved in Shooting and Prepare for Follow-up

Peer Support Needs

Pair up with involved officer(s) with Peer Support/uninvolved officers(s) until relieved by criminal team
When possible, remove involved officer(s) from immediate scene
Identify Witnesses
Prepare For Media At Scene (staging area, who to handle until PIO arrives, etc)

Managment (watch commander, Captain’s)
Criminal Team
Administrative Team
PIO
Peer Support
Employee’s Association (per department policy)

Command Post

Command Post and Operations Set Up (safe and secure location)
Initiate Incident Command System (ICS). OPS OIC, Planning OIC, Logistics OIC
